Arianna Huffington
Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington (Greek American) is a Greek American writer, syndicated-columnist and businesswoman. She is the author of fifteen books and is the cofounder of The Huffington Post. Arianna Huffington is an author and philanthropist as well as a television host as well as the proprietor of the independently free online news publication The Huffington Post. Originally from Greece she was able to move to England at the age of sixteen and then completed her studies at Cambridge University with an MA in Economics. She was the first student from outside the UK to be elected the president of The Cambridge Union at the age 21. Being a conservative syndicated blog when she graduated, she went on to become an influential voice for the Huffington Post. Her celebrity status helped her by attracting a variety of high-profile contributors to post their views on politics news and culture. Arianna was first noticed in 2003 as she stood in the California recall election replacing then Governor Davis. Alongside that, she led the Detroit initiative that promoted fuel efficient vehicles. She was named The Most Popular Women in Media in 2009 by Forbes in 2009, gaining 12th position on that list. The same year, the Guardian named her on the top 100 media list. AOL bought The Huffington Post from AOL in the year 2011. In 2012, she became the head of AOL's media group. The group included several AOL-owned properties, such as Engadget AOL Style List and Patch Media. She was the daughter of journalist and management consultant Konstantinos along with his partner Elli Stasinopoulos. Although she was a close friend to her father, it was the relationship she shared with her mother that shaped her life. At an early age, she showed leadership abilities that are still highly regarded. She moved to England at 16 to continue her education and then enrolled in Girton College Cambridge. She enrolled in Cambridge Union, the Cambridge Union college debate society while in college and was the third and first female to serve as president. In 1972, she graduated with a Master's Degree in Economics. She was a journalist as well as a host on TV and columnist upon her graduation.
